Australian Hotpoint toaster, early 1920s (Toaster museum)

German web designer Jens Veerbeck indulges himself with a toaster museum attached to his business site. Like the letterpress museum this is a collection that can be filtered various ways — in this case, by country of origin, by features, and by manufacturer. Our host writes:

The revelation that somebody collects toasters and other old stuff often leads to the same reaction: awkward pause, nervous laugh, then: “…Toasters?” The problem is not, to collect toasters. The problem is, to have hundreds of them. The result: They simply call you crazy. Well, and sometimes (after a look at my floor) I think they are right!

would anyone know the value of the 1920's Australian "Hotpoint"toaster? It still works and is in the original box, although it has been used? I bought it in Brisbane for $ 6.00

Darren

The Toaster Museum lists the Australian Hotpoint as category 03 (US$100-200). Sounds like you got a bargain.

I have a Hotpoint Toaster and during my research - many people have found patent info on the bottom including the Edison distinction. My toaster does not have the Edison distinction - it only says "C.G.E No. T12 600W. 115v. H.E.P.C. approval No. 336" and there appears to ba a serial Number of sorts that says" SYM28210". Can you tell me about when it was manufactured? Can you also tell me the approximate value? It was left to me by my Grandma and has beautiful cutout work and it still works. My roommates think it's worthless and maybe a bit dangerous because the cord its so old. Any info will be appreciated.

Hi Jules, I can't help you, except to suggest you ask on the toaster forum at http://www.toaster.org/cgi-bin/yabb/yabb.cgi
