Search tips

Check spelling

Don't enter conversation if you're looking for conservation.

Multiple words

stone brick mortar will find pages with any of the terms. Pages with all terms will be at the top of the search results.

Capitalisation

smith will find Smith, SMITH or smith. Lower case characters match either case. Upper case match only upper case.

Quotation marks

"bricks and mortar" finds that exact phrase.

Plus (+) or minus (-)

+brick -mortar insists on finding pages containing brick and excludes pages with mortar. Put the sign in front of the search term, with no space between.

Field searches

Search for words that appear in a specific part of a page, such as the body text (body:), title text (title:), alt text (alt:), meta description (desc:), meta keywords (keys:) or URL (url:). The field name should include the colon and precede the search term with no spaces between them. For example, searching for title:conservation will find pages with conservation in the title of the page.

Wildcards (*)

conserv* will find pages containing conservation, conserve, or conservator. *her* will find here, whether, together, gathering.

Combine these tips

engineer* +title:projects -"st helena"
