James Joyce’s Dublin

As part of his huge, tangled hypertext annotation of James Joyce’s Ulysses, Jorn Barger has made a geographer’s A to Z of Dublin, plotting the novel’s locations and the author’s real life. These pages have a plain ASCI look to them. The notes are terse. But there is information here by the bucket load.

Part of a map image from the website

Above is a snippet of one of the maps of Dublin and below, a sample from the legend (the square brackets indicate links):
Ush: Misses Flynn’s, Usher’s Island. cf [Dead]
A&E: Adam & Eve’s [FW003]
Ac: Antient Concert Rooms. cf [Mother] [fate]
Enc: 1894 Dubliners ‘Encounter’ (approx) [Encounter]

Other maps cover larger and smaller territories — the whole of western Europe, or the bedroom of a house.

(As an aside, I must mention that Jorn Barger invented the term weblog, in December 1997. See his Weblog resources FAQ (written in 1999 and now charmingly dated) and Julian Dibbell’s Portrait of the blogger as a young man, about Barger.)
